This area will be under a Winter Advisory from midnight tonight until 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon (Thursday, January 14). What type of precipitation the area will receive will depend on the timing of the movement of the system. The National Weather Service reports that a mix of light rain and light snow will be possible through early this evening, with a better chance for all light snow after midnight tonight.
The thorn will be the winds. As winds increase after midnight, reduced visibility with blowing snow will be possible through early Tuesday afternoon. The sustained winds from the Northwest will be at 25-to-35 miles per hour, with gusts to around 45 mph. The areas of blowing snow will reduce visibility to around a half-mile or less at times.
Snow amounts are generally expected to be around a half-inch to one-inch.
The affected area will be mainly northeast of a line from Brookings, South Dakota to Jackson and on the Minnesota state line.
