“The Gift of the Magi” is a short story-turned-into-a-play, written by O. Henry (the pen name for William Sydney Porter). The plot is about a young married couple and how they deal with the challenge of buying secret Christmas gifts for each other – with very little money – and features a “twist ending.”
It is a sentimental tale that features a moral lesson about gift-giving.
