henrietta hulzebosFuneral services for 91-year-old Henrietta Hulzebos of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, November 20, 2014, in the Alliance Missionary Church in Mountain Lake. The church is located at 809 5th Avenue.

Interment will be in the Christian Reformed Church Cemetery, located two miles of Cottonwood County Road #1 on Highway #30, and 1/4 mile north.

Officiating the services will be Pastor Bob Freye.

Visitation will be a Sturm Funeral Home-Mountain Lake, on Wednesday, November 19, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The funeral home is located at 420 10th Street North. A second visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church the day of the service.

Henrietta Gerdena (Menken) Hulzebos passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2014, in Mountain Lake.

Henrietta Gerdena Menken was born on the family farm near Mountain Lake, on November 26, 1922, the daughter of Louie and Hattie (Elsing) Menken. She grew up in the Mountain Lake area where she attended rural country school. She worked as a housekeeper for a couple years before getting married.

She married Menno Hulzebos on November 19, 1942 in Mountain Lake. Menno was in the military and stationed in California, so following their marriage the couple lived in California. They moved back to Minnesota following Menno’s service and made their home in Mountain Lake, where they raised their family.

Henrietta worked at Butterfield Foods, Tony Downs and Campbell’s Soup for several years before going to work at Hiebert’s Greenhouse in Mountain Lake, where she worked for some 35 years. She had been an active member of the Christian Reformed Church and served on ladies aid up until 2001 when the church closed. She was currently attending the Refuge Church of Mountain Lake.

Henrietta enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and baking bread with her grandkids. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Following Menno’s death in 2008, she moved the Laker Apartments in Mountain Lake where she enjoyed her new friends and activities there. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to their visits.

She is survived by her children, Allen (Phyllis) Hulzebos of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Dennis (Reva) Hulzebos of Mountain Lake and Marlene (Craig) Olson of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren, Valerie Whitehead and her fiancé Mike Anderson, Ryan (Carie) Hulzebos, Lance (Leah) Hulzebos, Amberly Hulzebos, Travis (Shawna) Hulzebos, Nate Olson and Lindsay (Victor) Kottwitz; 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Duane (Elsie) Menken of Fort Morgan, Colorado, Marcella Barlow of Flagstaff, Arizona, Delmar Menken of Rapid City, South Dakota and Susan (Jerry) Neufeld of Kasota, Minnesota.

Preceded her in death by her husband; granddaughter, Kelsey Hulzebos; two great-granddaughters; a brother, LaVern Menken and a sister, Gertie Radtke.
