Fall Fling fundraiser on Saturday supported Christmas in the Park
Yes, it is only October, and the autumn leaves on the trees are still in the midst of changing colors from green-to-red-to-orange-to yellow, but that does not mean it isn’t too early to be dreaming of a picturesque Christmas setting – especially when that vision deals with lighting up Mountain Lake City Park in holiday hues.
In order to help make that dream become reality, the Christmas in the Park committee – most notably, Cassondra Harder and Brittany Winters – along with Rachel Potter, Emily Adrian, Scott Winters, Paul and Diane Harder and Eileen Adrian – held a Fall Fling community fundraiser in City Park on Saturday morning, October 18.
Coffee or hot cocoa – and fresh baked muffins from the kitchens of several talented bakers in the community – were served.
There was also live music on keyboard (and a little vocals, too), courtesy of Janice Klassen, mini photo sessions by Kay Gohr of Capture Memories and a pumpkin painting art project for pint-sized painters.
In addition, handmade coffee cozies were on sale – perfect for keeping fingers from getting too hot when clutching a cup o’ joe in a paper, plastic or foam cup.

LAWSON FAST APPROVES OF his chocolate chip muffin, savoring each bite of it during the Fall Fling in Mountain Lake City Park on Saturday morning. Lawson is the son of Trevor and Crystal Fast of Mountain Lake.
TRUDY HOLMEN OF Mountain Lake had a difficult time deciding which out of the eight varieties of muffins to select, so she did the next best thing – purchased two different kinds – along with some java. Besides enjoying the treat as a great mid-morning pick-me-up, her donation helped support the continuation of Christmas in the Park.
DIANE HARDER OF Mountain Lake – while wearing a dazzling headband of Dixie cup wrapped in a coffee cozy, deftly replenishes the muffin stock.
CASSONDRA HARDER, LEFT, of Mountain Lake, also donning the theme headband, visits with Glennie Schroeder of Mountain Lake as she peruses the muffin selections.
PROVIDING LIVE KEYBOARD music of ALL types (including, of course, Christmas selections, which helped folks at the fundraiser get in the holiday spirit) for was Janice Klassen of Mountain Lake.
THE PUMPKINS ARE lined up and waiting for the pint-sized painters. The pumpkin at right, covered in purple paint with a pink paint stem accent, was completed as an example of the activity by Claire Adrian of Mountain Lake.
CLAIRE ADRIAN CONTINUED with her popular pumpkin painting color theme – purple and pink – on a second pumpkin (although she did add a hint of green).
ADALYNN KUFAHL chose popular purple for the base paint color on her pumpkin. Adalynn is the daughter of Pastor Peter and Amy Kufahl of Mountain Lake.
EMILY ADRIAN AND daughter, Claire, were the first in line to get their holiday photograph snapped by Kay Gohr of Capture Memories.
