darlene curryServices for Darlene Curry, 75, of St. James, Minnesota, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday morning, October 10, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in St. James. The church is located at 225 Armstrong Boulevard South.

Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, located on Watonwan County Road #27, south of St. James.

Officiant for the services will be Reverend Clinton Firstbrook III.

Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the day of the funeral service.

Sturm Funeral Home-St. James, is handling the arrangements.

Darlene Curry passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014, in St. James.

Darlene Fay Sawatzky was born March 24, 1939 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Erwin and Marie (Quiring) Sawatzky. She grew up on the family farm attending District #22 through the 8th-grade. She then attended St. James Public High School.

On February 28, 1959, Darlene was united in marriage to Roger Curry. The couple made their home in St. James until 1970, when they moved to Austin, Minnesota for a couple years before moving back to St. James in 1972. Darlene worked various jobs before moving back to St. James. She and Roger purchased Shorty and Helen’s Café, renaming it Curry’s Café. They ran the café for 20 years. Darlene then started the deli at Duke’s and moved on to Superfair, where she worked until her retirement in 2004.

Darlene enjoyed garden flowers, painting and crafts, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She loved spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Brenda (Brad) Husby of St. James, Karen (Charlie ) Waterbury of Ormsby, Minnesota and Brett (Molli) Curry of St. James; sisters, June (Dave) Firchau of St. James and Sandi Rodgers of Litchfield, Minnesota; brother, Jerry (Marian) Sawatzky; grandchildren, John, Kaye, Abbie, Ethan, Ali and Kody; great-grandchildren, Talyn, Kolten and Brecken; sisters-in-law, Pam Davies of Wisconsin, June Engelking of Alexandria , Minnesota and Doris Curry of Windom, Minnesota and brother-in-law, Dennis Curry of St. James.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Sawatzky and brothers-in-law, Richard Curry and Douglas Engelking.
