Residents of Odin and the surrounding area rallied around the Odin City Park playground, raising $16,000 for new park equipment through fund-raising activities held on Saturday, September 6.
The fundraiser was organized by the Odin Community Club. The last city-wide event was held in 1999.
Events included the first-ever Uff Da! Fun Run, a 32-team bean bag tournament, kids’ games and crafts, a pork chop dinner by the Watonwan County Pork Producers, additional food stands and a beer wagon, along with a street dance featuring the Minnesota-based country/rock band, “Canyon Cowboys” and a raffle drawing for prizes.
After expenses, approximately $12,000 will be available for the playground fund. That bumps up the total amount of money raised for playground renovations to $28,000, just $2,000 shy of the goal set by the community club. There is now enough funds to begin putting together plans for the improvements.
