Budget for street repairs approved
Responding to a request from Buck Shots Bar & Grill, the Butterfield City Council, on a split vote, the Butterfield City Council approved placing on this November’s general election ballot a vote to add a law to allow Sunday liquor sales at their Monday, August 11 meeting.
Street repairs for troublesome spots
Council members also approved a street repair budget of $64,000 for patch job work on some of the most troublesome spots on city streets.
In other business
* Approved a new policy for wintertime frozen water lines. Other cities have adjusted their policies in connection to this past year’s harsh winter, and the council has gleaned ideas by looking at recent ordinance changes in the cities of Warren, Franklin and Brownsdale. A description of the changes will be mailed in the near future.
* Approved sending a city representative to a meeting at the St. James Fire Station with some of the other cities in Watonwan Countyl. The topic of discussion will be new street signs. At the meeting, the group will make a decision on whether or not to join with additional cities in order to get a potential discount. The council is interested in this idea, and had talked about street signs at its July meeting.
* Slated a work session on Wednesday, August 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m., to work on the 2015 budget.
