2014 event to run from Wednesday, August 13 through Saturday, August 16
It is Cottonwood County Fair time again, and the 2014 version of events will run from next Wednesday, August 13 through Saturday, August 16, at the fairgrounds in Windom. The Cottonwood County Fair has been an annual tradition since 1883. It is a celebration that showcases all the county has to offer. There are plenty of things to do and see for young and old alike, such as children’s activities, entertainment, food and merchandise vendors, livestock and agriculture competitions, midway rides and much, much more.
Following is the daily schedule activities for the four days of the fair:
Wednesday, August 13
* 9 a.m. to 12 noon – Entries for Open Class exhibits.
* 12:30 p.m. – Open Class judging in horticulture, crops and mechanical in the Vossen Building.
* 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. – D. C. Hawk (traditional, country and gospel music) in the Entertainment Tent (free admission courtesy of Bank Midwest, Phat Pheasant Pub, Lamberton Stockyards, Jeffers Implement and Citizen Publishing Company).
* 5 p.m. – Commercial Exhibits open.
* 6:30 p.m. – House Cat and Kitten Show in the Oleson Pavilion.
* 7 p.m. – Free performance of Flemming Fold in the Windom Arena. sponsored by GDF, Miller Sellner and Windom Farm Service.
*10 p.m. – Commercial Exhibits close.
Thursday, August 14
* 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. – Betty Rydell (country, gospel, fiddling, yodeling) in the Entertainment Tent (free admission courtesy of Bank Midwest, Phat Pheasant Pub, Lamberton Stockyards, Jeffers Implement and Citizen Publishing Company).
* 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Carnival Discount Day. (Carnival is McDermott Family Fun Show, with 16-18 rides, 12-15 game booths and food stands. Pre-sale Carnival tickets available United Prairie, Fulda Area Credit Union, Bank Midwest, Windom Chamber of Commerce, Hy-Vee and the Fair Office during the Fair days.)
* 5:30 p.m. – Open Class Sheep Show in the Oleson Pavilion.
* 6 p.m. – Class Car Show outside the Windom Arena.
* 7:30 p.m. – Talent Show in the Windom Arena. Tickets prices are adults, $6; ages 6-16, $4 and ages five and under, free.
* 8 p.m. – Introduction of the “Farm Family of the Year” during the Talent Show.
Friday, August 15
* 10 a.m. – Open Class Beef Show in the Windom Arena.
* 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. – RAD ZOO (a Reptile and Amphibians Discovery Zoo) in the south Commercial Building.
* 1:30 p.m. – Open Class Dairy Show in the Windom Arena.
* 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. – Marv Nissel (polka) in the Entertainment Tent (free admission courtesy of Bank Midwest, Phat Pheasant Pub, Lamberton Stockyards, Jeffers Implement and Citizen Publishing Company).
* 7:30 p.m. – Free Kenya Safari Acrobat Show in the Windom Arena. Paid for by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture County Fair Arts Access and Cultural Heritage Grant.
Saturday, August 16
* 12:30 p.m. – Southwest Dog Show in the Windom Arena.
* 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Carnival Wrist Bands (includes all rides), $20. Drawing for a boys and a girls bike at 5 p.m. Must be present to win.
* 1:30 p.m. – Junior Columbine Sheep Show in the Rabbit and Poultry Barn.
* 3:30 p.m. – 4-H State Fair General Orientation in the Oleson Pavilion.
* 3 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. – Kevin Saline (magic show) in the Entertainment Tent (free admission courtesy of Bank Midwest, Phat Pheasant Pub, Lamberton Stockyards, Jeffers Implement and Citizen Publishing Company).
* 5:30 p.m. – Kids’ Pedal Tractor Pull, east of the Windom Arena.
* 6:30 p.m. – Free Midwest Outlaw Truck and Tractor Pullers Association in the Windom Arena. Sponsored by Miller Sellner, GDF, Bank Midwest, Phat Pheasanat Pub, Lamberton Stockyards, Jeffers Implement, Windom Farm Service and Citizen Publishing Company.
* 9:45 p.m. – Commercial Exhibits close.
Other Activities from Wednesday through Saturday
* Bingo – Wednesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to close and Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. to close.
* Pony Go Round and Petting Zoo all four days.
* Beer Garden Wednesday through Saturday, from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight, sponsored by the Windom Hockey Association. Karaoke with Donna in the Beer Garden from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday.
