Funeral services for 91-year-old John H. Buller of Mountain Lake, Minnesota will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, July 24, 2014, in Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, located at 301 9th Street North.

Interment will be in Mountain Lake City Cemetery, located at 10th Street North at Midway Road.

The Reverend Galen Kauffman will officiate at the services.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at Sturm Funeral Home-Mountain Lake, 420 10th Street North and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

John H. Buller passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014, in Mountain Lake.

John Buller was born in Mountain Lake on May 22, 1923, the son of Dietrich and Margaret (Peters) Buller. He was the oldest of three children. He was baptized at Bethel Mennonite Church on June 13, 1943. He attended Mountain Lake Public School through eighth-grade and was a lifelong member of Bethel Mennonite Church.

John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Evelyn Peters on May 31, 1946 in Mountain Lake. They were married 65 years until her death in 2011. John and Evelyn farmed around Mountain Lake until 1957. In 1957, they moved to town and he started working at John Deere Implement in Mountain Lake as a mechanic. He worked at John Deere until 1969. In 1969, he started working at Mountain Lake Public High School as a “flat surface engineer” (custodian). He worked his way up to Head Custodian and retired from the school in 1988.

After retirement, John enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and taking care of his lawn and garden. John had a love for life and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family. He will be remembered for his kind, caring heart, his warm hugs, smile, and witty humor. John was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

John is survived by his son-in law, Marvin Birr of Good Thunder, Minnesota; grandchildren: Ellen (Paul) Sombke of Good Thunder, Kara (Mike) FitzSimmons of Good Thunder, Darrin (Cassie) Birr of Good Thunder, Lindsay Birr of Elgin, Minnesota and Allison Birr of Good Thunder; great-grandchildren: Josh Sombke, Sam Sombke, Zack Garlow, Bryan Garlow, Tyler Garlow, Logan FitzSimmons, Braxton FitzSimmons, Jackson Birr, Rosemary Birr and Nolen Birr; aunt, Lorraine Quiring of Mountain Lake; brothers: Elmer (Rubie) Buller of Mountain Lake and Willmar (Darlene) Buller of Mountain Lake; nieces and nephews: Galen Derksen of Windom, Minnesota, Dana Derksen (Mary Jane Mardesen) of Rushmore, Minnesota, Sharon (Gary) Phelps of Burnsville, Minnesota, Dineen Dohmen of Dundas, Minnesota, Jolene (Bob) Kump of Burnsville, David (Linda) Buller of Mountain Lake, Walter (Cindy) Buller of International Falls, Minnesota, Richard (Jean Ann) Buller of New Hope, Minnesota, Larry Buller of Mankato, Minnesota, Deb (Curt) Wall of Mountain Lake and Tim (Kim) Buller of McPherson, Kansas; great nieces and nephews: Nikki (Brian) Shannon, Jay (Carissa) McDonald, Kinsey Kump, Bailey Kump, Kerry (Mike) Gabael, Kristen (Ben) Radcliffe, Matthew (Kara) Buller, Jeremy (Angela) Buller, Andrew Buller, Peter (Ruth) Buller, Martin Buller, Shelby Buller, Marshall Wall, Grant (Emily) Wall, Zachary Buller and Rachel Buller; 17 great-great nieces and nephews; and many cousins and friends, including special friend Mildred Quiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Leroy Buller; daughter, Patricia Birr; sister-in-law, Luella Derksen; brother-in-law Leonard Peters; and niece, Eileen Derksen.
