Raisins – the grapes of (dehydration’s) wrath

Mountain Lake Fire Department donates free raisins to local child care facilities

It was the intention of the Mountain Lake Fire Department to distribute a healthy snack – raisins (or dried grapes) – parade attendees at the Mountain Lake Pow Wow Monday night Grande Parade.

However, the summertime stormy weather had different ideas, and the rains washed away the parade – and the opportunity for local firefighters to promote a healthful diet.

Still packing the packaged boxes of raisins, the fire department decided to dole them out as free summer snack treats to the children in Mountain Lake’s child care facilities – Town & Country Day Care Center and Sandy Schroeder’s in-home family child care.

The fire department’s Dave Watkins spent Tuesday noon hour, July 15, bringing the sweet treats to the children at the day cares via a special delivery vehicle – one of the fire department’s trucks.

Below are two photographs of his stop at Schroeder’s facility. The photos were taken by Kevien Schroeder.

Not exactly Santa Claus with a full white beard and red sleigh – but Watkins, with a mustache and red fire truck – made quite a similar sight.
