Walzak again advances to boys state golf tourney

Junior earns section bronze; Oeltjenbruns competes in girls meet

Mountain Lake Christian junior Aaron Walzak of the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) boys golf team, earned a spot once again in the Minnesota State Class A Boys Golf Tournament. He advances by playing to a bronze medal in Section 2A play at North Links Golf Course in Mankato on Monday afternoon, June 2. This is his third straight trip to state.

The top five finishers move on to play in the state meet, to be held Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11 at Pebble Creek Golf Club near Becker.

Winning the section title was Cordell Weber, a Martin County West Public High School senior and a five-time state tourney participant, shooting a one-over-par 73 for medalist honors. Finishing second with an 81 was Zach Monshaugen of Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, followed by Walzak and his score of 82. Rounding out the state qualifiers were Freddie Rolstad of Faribault Bethlehem Academy andMichael Dallager of Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther, each of which shot an 86.

United South Central, the defending section champ that finished fourth in last year’s state meet, won the boys team championship with a four-player score of 322.

MLA’s Caitlin Oeltjenbruns competed in the girls section meet, moving on to North Links from the sub-section with her 119 score, earning an  at-large bid.
