Mass of Christian Burial for 65-year-old Richard “Dick” Appel, of North Mankato, Minnesota, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday morning, May 16, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato.
Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato, Minnesota.
Visitation be tomorrow (Thursday, May 15, 2014), from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Richard passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
He was born on November 5, 1948 in Heron Lake, Minnesota, the son of Julius and Joyce (Mullin) Appel, and graduated from Heron Lake Public High School and from the Mankato Technical Institute with a degree in architectural drafting. Richard served in the United States Army in the 452nd D General Support Company. He was very patriotic and proud of his military service.
Dick was united in marriage to Donna Anderson on October 25, 1969 in Dundee, Minnesota. Dick worked for Lloyd Lumber and Patterson Lumber before owning and operating Appel Construction. He then worked for North Star Concrete. Dick built his home and several other homes in North Mankato. He enjoyed woodworking, tinkering and remote control cars. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and giving them rides on his tractor.
Survivors includle his wife, Donna of North Mankato; children, Tanya (Ed) Vogel of Janesville, Minnesota, Darla (Dan) Welp of St. Peter, Minnesota, Mathew Appel of Mankato and Debra (Matt) Mosloski of Fairmont, Minnesota; grandchildren, Dustin Vogel, Tremain Appel and Devyn Welp and Joey Welp; three brothers, Donovan (Arlene) Appel, James Appel and Thomas (Kelly) Appel; and an aunt, Phyllis Mullin.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and sister, MaryAnn.
