110th MLHS commencement to graduate 40 seniors with Class of 2014

Event is Friday evening in the school’s auditorium

FIFTEEN GRADUATING SENIORS from the Mountain Lake Public High School Class of 2014 were have earned the distinction of being named an Honor Student. In order to achieve this honor, students must have maintained a 3.0 or “B” average in their high school years in all classes taken. The 110th graduating class of Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS) – the Class of 2014 – will celebrate their commencement on Friday, May 16, in the high school auditorium, beginning at 7 p.m.. Forty students are on the class roll.

The Senior High Band will present the prelude and the traditional processional, “Pomp and Circumstance,” as well as the selection, “Havendance,” by David R. Holsinger. Kurt Jahnke is the band director.

The Senior High Choir, under the direction of Andrea Brinkman, will share the number, “Another Bridge to Cross,” by Carl Strommen, while all members of the senior class – the Senior Choir – will present “Lean on Me,” by Bill Wirthers/GLEE, with arrangement by Adam Anders and Tim Davis.

Andrew Hempeck, Senior Class Secretary/Treasurer, will shares Words of Inspiration.

Introducing the featured speaker will be Mikayla Falk, Vice-President of the Senior Class.

Featured Commencement Speaker will be Mitchell Schroeder, a 2003 graduate of MLHS, who went on to graduate from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. He and his wife, Erica (also a MLHS grad) have now returned to their roots; Mitchell employed by United Prairie Bank and Erica a pharmacist at Peterson Thrifty White Drug and Gifts. They are the parents of two daughters.

Deborah Wallert of the Mountain Lake Scholarship Program will present scholarships to seniors, and Paul Metcalf will award the “Bradley Behrends Memorial Scholarship.”

High School Principal Pamela Anderson will present the graduating class, and Christian Pfeiffer, Senior Class President, will give the Class Response.

Douglas Standerwick, Chair of the Mountain Lake Public School Board of Education, will award the diplomas.

The new MLHS alumni will exit the auditorium to their recessional selection, “Hall of Fame,” by The Script.

The Class Motto selected by the seniors is: “Our lives are before us, our pasts are behind us, but our memories are forever with us.”

Class Colors are the traditional Maroon-and-Silver.

Senior Class Advisors include faculty members Brenda Feil, Shawn Naas and Kim Syverson.
