Two grants received
The Lake Commission for Mountain Lake met on Monday, November 13, at Mountain Lake City Hall.
Commission members acknowledged a pair of grants received:
- $3,140.74 – from the State of Minnesota for curly leaf control.
- $7,200 – from Cottonwood County for construction of the sediment pond at Mountain Lake Golf Course.
Major expenses included $11,727.50 to Lohrenz Construction of Mountain Lake for the construction of the golf course sediment pond and $713.10 to Inland Lake for a LOFA control box for the weed harvester.
The Lake Commission currently has a balance of $11,015.50, with $22,015.19 in savings.
+ Lake Aeration:
- Lake Commission Chair Jason Kruser has sent in the application for the aeration permit. He has received an e-mail concerning it, however, as not yet received the permit.
- Lake Commission Member Jim Peterson will contact the Observer/Advocate about placing “Thin Ice” ads for the next two weeks.
- Kruse will contact the Mountain Lake/Odin/Ormsby Sportsmen’s Club about assisting with the aeration. He will try to attend the organization’s next meeting.
+ Fishing Pier:
- Lake Commission Member Jason Honkomp will submit the necessary paperwork for a grant from the area Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) office to install benches on the fishing pier. Honkomp has the limber and decking screws. The work will be done in the spring 2018.
- Kruser, Peterson and Kevin Ella moved the fishing pier on Wednesday, October 25. They noted that the jack they used is not safe. Commission members approved the purchase of a new Handyman Jack. Kruser will collect the prices from Country Pride True Value Hardware of Mountain Lake.
+ Mountain Lake Trail:
- Bargen Inc. of Mountain Lake has submitted a bid of $5,300 for trail crack sealing. They will use a blow-and-go process, and would fill old and failed cracks, along with new cracks. They did request that the public is notified when they are doing the work. The Lake Commission accepted the bid. The work could be done this fall, if possible, otherwise in the spring.
- Mountain Lake Mayor Mike Nelson reported that a tree is down on the Island Trail. Lake Commission Member Dave Bucklin will remove it.
+ Weed Harvester:
- The new LOFA control box has been purchased and installed, fixing the problem. The harvester was placed into storage in Tony Ewert’s shed on Friday, October 20. Members approved the payment of the $200 rent.
- Mountain Lake City Administrator/Clerk Wendy Meyer reported that there would be no DNR funding for weed harvesting grants in 2018. A total of $3,140.74 was reimbursed for 2017 harvesting expenses.
