Court appearance set for Tuesday, June 27
According to KEYC-TV and keyc.com, former Butterfield-Odin Public School (B-OPS) Superintendent Lisa Shellum has been charged with one count of theft by swindle and one charge of misconduct by a public official.
A criminal complaint filed in Watonwan County alleges that Shellum submitted false mileage reimbursement claims of $1,339.32 during 2014 and 2015.
The claims in the complaint include an “attorney meeting” that was determined to have been with a private attorney; 14 claims for trips to Mankato for Region 9 training (when records show only one session was attended); seven claims for trips to Windom for I.E.P. (Individualized Education Program) meetings (which show no records of her attending) and three trips taken at a time Shellum was on a leave of absence from her job.
Shellum had taken the B-OPS School District to court, seeking damages for discrimination, violations of data practices and being unfairly targeted for unknowlingly reporting false eports.
Shellum and the B-OPS School District had recently agreed to a settlement, with one of the conditions that the district agreed to send a letter to the Watonwan County Sheriff’s Office stating the district does not have any interest in that office, or the Watonwan County Attorney’s Office, continuing an investigation into Shellum related to her conduct while an employee of the district.
Shellum has been summoned to appear in court on Tuesday, June 2.
