Winners in municipal, township, school district, county commissioner elections
The local voting results are in for the Tuesday, November 8 general election for municipal, township, school district and county commissioner races:
City of Mountain Lake
+ Mayor (Two-Year Term) – Incumbent Mike Nelson returns with 505 votes. Challenger Michael Johnson received 374 votes and there were 12 write-in votes.
+ City Council (Two for Four-Year Terms) – Incumbents David Ryan Savage (572 votes) and Darla J. Kruser (411 votes) are re-elected. Challengers Jason Kruser and Del Decko had 322 and 186 votes, respectively. There were 22 write-in votes.
City of Butterfield
+ Mayor (Two-Year Term) – Newcomer Philip Buhler was elected mayor with 113 votes. Incumbent Harry Hanson had 47 and challenger James Warwick, 45. There was 1 write-in vote.
+ City Council (Two for Four-Year Terms) – Incumbent Nick Mathistad was returned to the city council with 117 votes, with Kenneth Pankratz back in city government, receiving 100 votes. Challengers Greg Polich and Cindy Baerg received 86 and 64 votes, respectively. There were 8 write-in votes.
City of Odin
+ Mayor (Two-Year Term) – Todd Langeland is mayor with 51 votes. There were 8 write-in votes.
+ City Council (Two for Four-Year Terms) – Troy Kluver and Susan Kluver were elected to the city council with 41 and 36 votes, respectively. Thirty write-in votes were recorded.
City of Darfur
+ Mayor (Two-Year Term) – Incumbent John M. Schumann, running unchallenged, returns as mayor with 27 votes. Three received write-in votes.
+ City Council (Two for Four-Year Terms) – Newcomers Harlan Helget and Tim Sonnabend earn spots on the city council. Sonnabend received 28 votes and Helget, 26. Two candidates received write-in votes. (Incumbents Susan Evers and John Schmitt elected not to run.)
City of Comfrey
+ Mayor (Two-Year Term) – Incumbent Gary Richter was re-elected with 155 votes. He was running unchallenged. There were 10 write-in votes.
+ City Council (Two for Four-Year Terms) – Incumbents Susan Evers and John Schmitt were re-elected with 160 and 158 votes, respectively. There were 6 write-in-votes.
City of Bingham Lake
+ Mayor (Two-Year Term) – Trina Kalvig is elected mayor with 32 votes. Mary Krumwiede had 23; David Mattison, 7 and Marvin Bretzman, 6. (Incumbent Darren Kalvig did not run for re-election.)
+ City Council (Two for Four-Year Terms) – Elected to the council were incumbent Rocky Zimmer (41 votes) and newcomer Ryan Sokolofsky (40 votes). Incumbent Carol Goeman received 25 votes. There were 2 write-in votes. (Incumbent Char Sietsema did not file for re-election.)
City of Ormsby
+ Mayor (Two-Year Term) – Charles Waterbury was elected mayor with 42 votes.
+ City Council (Two for Four-Year Terms) – Lauralynn Baarson and Karen Curry Waterbury were elected to the city council with 33 and 32 votes, respectively. There were 6 write-in votes.
Township of Mountain Lake
+ Town Supervisor Seat B (Four-Year Term) – No candidates filed, but there were 24 write-in votes.
+ Town Clerk-Treasurer (Four-Year Term) – Mark Hanson was elected with 94 votes. There were two write-in votes.
Township of Midway
+ Township Supervisor Seat A (Four-Year Term) – John D. Regier was elected with 117 votes. There were 8 write-in votes.
Township of Lakeside
+ Town Supervisor Seat A (Four-Year Term) – Colin Bennett was elected with 94 votes. Michael Hanson received 56 votes.
+ Town Clerk (Four-Year Term) – Kathryn Schoneman received 145 votes in route to being elected to the post.
Township of Adrian
+ Town Supervisor Seat 1 (Four-Year Term) – No candidates, but 28 write-in votes.
+ Town Treasurer (Four-Year Term) – Leah Eischen was elected with 95 votes. There was 1 write-in vote.
Township of Butterfield
+ Town Supervisor Seat 1 (Four-Year Term) – Mike Hall.
Township of Odin
+ Town Supervisor Seat 1 (Four-Year Term) – Roddy Hanson received 66 votes for the post. Brad Ommodt had 37 votes. There was 1 write-in vote.
+ Town Clerk (Four-Year Term) – JoAnn Haugen was elected with 94 votes.
Township of Long Lake
+ Town Supervisor Seat 1 (Four-Year Term) – Jerome Christensen was elected with 183 votes. There was 1 write-in vote.
+ Town Clerk (Four-Year Term) – Sharon Moody was elected with 187 votes.
Cottonwood County
+ Commissioner District 4 (Four-Year Term) – Incumbent Norm Holmen returns with 765 votes. Challenger Amy Riihl received 303 votes. There were 3 write-in votes.
Watonwan County
+ Commissioner District 5 (Four-Year Term) – Incumbent Kathleen Svalland is re-elected with 829 votes. There were 106 write-in votes.
Butterfield-Odin Public School Board, Independent School District #836
+ Board Members (Four, Four-Year Terms) – Elected to the school board were newcomer Pamela Xayaphonesongkham (354 votes), newcomer Shannon Sykes (341 votes), incumbent Kristin Haseman (304 votes) and incumbent Renae Meyer (299 votes). Also running were newcomer Cary Quiring (280 votes) and incumbent Tammy Wolle (262 votes). There were 47 write-in votes.
Comfrey Public School Board, Independent School District #81
+ Board Members (Three, Four-Year Terms) – Pete Samuelson, Stacie Simon and Nathan Hesse were elected to the board. There were 16 write-in votes.
