Sweet!

Sweetfields, an eatery located in the Care & Share Shop/Ten Thousand Villages building at the corner of 10th Street and 3rd Avenue in Mountain Lake, has reopened following a closure of several weeks.

Norm Englund of Mountain Lake was recently given the go-ahead from the Care & Share Shop/Ten Thousand Villages Board of Directors to operate the breakfast and lunch cafe. Englund will officially open the doors to his business Friday, March 21.

When the coffee, treats, sweets and lunch shop first opened, it was known as Sweetfields and More. Most recently, when operated by Mari Harries of Windom, who also has River City Eatery in Windom, the establishment was called Sweetfields Eatery. Englund is retaining the Sweetfields portion of the business name and is considering a contest in the creation of an addendum for what the eatery will be called.

Englund and his wife, Deb Englund, funeral director for Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake, have a son, Reece, a junior at Mountain Lake Public High School. For two months in between earlier Sweetfields operations, Englund maintained the business. He also a great deal of business experience, and in his earlier years, worked at an award-winning Mexican restaurant. He also touts his skills in cooking for family occasions.

Assisting Englund in customer service will be Nadya Bucklin, also of Mountain Lake.

As far a the breakfast, lunch, snack and beverage menus are concerned, Englund has released a modified full plan, with plans to reach the full plan in the coming weeks.

For lunchtime, patrons can choose from homemade soup, additional soup choices, sandwiches, open-faced melts, wraps, panini sandwiches and a chicken/pasta/cranberry salad.

To assuage a sweet tooth, choices are milk shares, ice cream, monster cookies, Oh Henry bars, cupcakes, variety of chips and chocoflan (a two-layer treat with devil’s food cake on the bottom topped with with custard and baked with caramel sauce).

Beverage listings feature specialty coffee drinks, coffee, frappes, tea, water, pop, specialty pop, milk, hot chocolate and various juices.
