Butterfield City Council learns of Buckshots business plan at March meeting

Building official position is vacated

Matt Rinne of Buckshots Bar and Grill in Butterfield attended the Monday, March 10 Butterfield City Council meeting and shared information concerning a business plan that includes a building addition and an application for off-sale liquor sales.

Council members made no decision at the meting  as they wanted to do more research, including clarification of city ordinances, proximity to Butterfield-Odin Public School and the vacating of a road for parking. Discussion was tabled until Tuesday, March 18, at which time a special meeting will be held, beginning at 7 p.m.

Building official position cut

The council voted to vacate the city’s building official position, due to circumstances beyond their control. However, members did agree to explore the option of possibly utilizing Inspectron, Inc., which is the company the City of St. James uses for building official business.

City maintenance report

Butterfield City Maintenance Manager Brandon Winch reported to the council on a variety of city maintenance issues:

* Informed about MnWARN (Minnesota Water/Wastewater Agency Response Network), an emergency back-up for water/wastewater which is similar to fire department mutual aid agreements. Council members questioned the liability of equipment and who would be the responsible party for the cost of paying city employees in the event they would be dispatched out. No decision was made.

* Presented the annual agreement with DPC (Dakota Pump Company) for sewer pump inspections. Council voted to remain with DPC at a cost of $350, plus the cost of the pump at the sewage treatment ponds.

* Shared the quote from Ferguson Waterworks for 1-to-1 1/2-inch water meters. The council elected to wait on this project for the time being, and to contact neighboring communities to see if they would have any additional water meters to sell to the city.

* Discussed the street sweeper with council members. After the discussion, council members voted to make the necessary repairs at this time to keep the machine running.

* Earned approval from council members to attend a MPCA (Minnesota Pollution Control Agency) Wastewater School in New Ulm on April 8-10.

Water/wastewater service agreement with City of St. James

Council members were presented a copy of the contract for water/wastewater services with the City of St. James. Following review, the council wanted clarification as to who assumes responsibility for liability issues.

The contract was approved by members, and Butterfield Mayor Ken Pankratz was given the authority to sign the document assuming the liability question is resolved.
