Chance to avenge regular season loss to Madelia Blackhawks

The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverines Varsity Football team advances in the Section 3 9-Man football playoffs with a 70-30 win over #6-seed Westbrook-Walnut Grove (WWG) Tuesday night, October 13 at Munson Field. The win gives Head Coach Tim Kirk’s squad a 7-2 record.

The #3-seeded Wolverines will now play the Madelia Blackhawks, the Section 3 #2 seed at Madelia on Saturday, October 17, at 3 p.m. The Blackhawks account for one of the two losses on the MLA season. Madelia defeated the #8-seed Fulda, 60-6.

In other Section 3 play, #4 Edgerton/Ellsworth topped #5-seed Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman 44-14. The #1-seed, Hills-Beaver Creek topped #8 Heron Lake-Okabena, 58-28. The Patriots will play at home on Saturday, October 17, when they take on Edgerton/Ellsworth in a 3 p.m. kick-off.

The Section 3 9-Man finals will be played at 12 p.m. on Friday, October 23, at Southwest Minnesota State University-Marshall.

+ MLA up 8-0. Senior running back/wide receiver Chris Boyd runs it in from 35 yards out. (Two-point conversion is good; pass from junior quarterback Levi Stoesz to senior tight end Christian Hampel.)

+ WWG scores on three-yard touchdown pass from Andrew Quade to junior wide receiver Jack Jorgenson. (Two-point conversion is good). All tied up at 8-8. Score set up by a MLA fumble.

+ Wolverines score on 53-yard pass from Stoesz to Hampel. (Two-point conversion fails.) MLA in front 14-8.

+ Junior fullback Jacob Suess takes it in from one-yard out for MLA. (Two- point conversion is good; Boyd runs it in.) Wolverines 22, Chargers, 8. Score set up on an interception by Suess.

+ Stoesz to Boyd for a 33-yard touchdown pass. (Two-point conversion fails.) Wolverines take a 28-8 lead. Score set up on a fumble recovery by junior middle linebacker Jacob Wahdan.

+ Sixty-yard touchdown pass from Stoesz to Boyd for another MLA score. (Two-point conversion is good.) MLA in front 36-8.

+ Senior Jose Sanchez scores his first rushing touchdown of the year, running it in from the eight-yard line. (Point after touchdown fails.) 42-8 Wolverines.

+ WWG scores; junior tailback. Anthony Koch on a 40-yard touchdown run. (Two-point conversion is good.) Score is 42-16 MLA.

+ Boyd scores again; 26-yard touchdown pass from Stoesz. (Two-point conversion fails.) Wolverines on top, 48-16.

+ Into the end zone for sophomore running back Reynaldo Capetillo of MLA with a 16-yard touchdown run. (Two-point conversion fails.) It is 54-16, Wolverines.

+ Touchdown WWG; three-yard run for Koch. (Two-point conversion is good.) Score is 54-24 in favor of MLA.

+ Capetillo goes in again from 49 yards. (Two-point conversion; Maleek Stewart runs it in the two yards.) Wolverines ahead 62-24.

+ Andrew Quade to Koch (Two-point conversion fails.) Score is MLA 62, WWG, 30.

+ 42-yard touchdown run for sophomore running back AJ Vongsy. (Two-point conversion is good; senior fullback Alex Dunker takes it in.) Wolverines hold the lead, 70-30.
