Funeral services for 68-year-old Dianne Dougherty of St. James, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning, July 27, 2015, at East Sveadahl Lutheran Church in rural St. James, located at 301877 710th Avenue.
Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, located south of St. James on Watonwan County Road #27.
Visitation will be at Sturm Funeral Home-St. James Chapel, located at 906 10th Avenue South, on Sunday, July 26, 2015, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., and at the church the day of the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Dianne Faye Dougherty passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.
Dianne Faye Moe was born November 17, 1946 in Volga, South Dakota, the daughter of Knute and Alma (Anderson) Moe. She grew up in Arlington, South Dakota, where she graduated from high school. She received her teaching degree from Dakota State College in Madison, South Dakota.
She then moved to St. James ,where she started her teaching career in 1969. She met Steven Dougherty in St. James and on June 26, 1970, the couple were united in marriage.
Steve re-enlisted in the United States Army, and the couple moved to Alaska in 1974. While in Alaska, Dianne taught economically challenged adult GED classes at the University of Alaska.
In 1979, the couple moved to Madelia, Minnesota, where Dianne ran the Day Care Center until 1981, when she began teaching in Comfrey, Minnesota. She taught in Comfrey until her retirement in 2007.
Dianne taught in various schools and in many different environments with one common factor, she loved her students. Dianne and Steve raised three children together until his death in 1991. She then raised them as a single mom. She would always work more than one job, always putting her children’s needs ahead of her own.
She enjoyed playing softball in her younger years. She loved attending her boys’ athletic events. She played cards, bingo and spent time at the casino. She enjoyed all the travelling she did with her siblings and just being social. Her favorite times where those spent with her grandchildren. She was always the “fun grandma” as she always made sure they made the most out of the time spent together. She loved spending time with them and they loved spending time with her.
Dianne is survived by her children, Jason (Sami) Dougherty of Butterfield, Minnesota, Jeren (Adam) Marxen of St. James and Jon (Jessie) Dougherty of St. James; seven grandchildren, Shania Hansen, Jordan Dougherty, Mahryn Dougherty, Madison Dougherty, McKinley Marxen, Maxwell Marxen and Gwenyth Dougherty; siblings, Elaine Steffensen of Arlington, South Dakota, Yvonne Dobrenski of Brookings, South Dakota and Ronald (Linda) Moe of Madison, South Dakota, and a sister-in-law; Joanne Moe of Brookings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steven; parents, Knute and Alma Moe; twin brother, David Moe; brothers, Robert Moe and Keith Moe; in-laws, Harold and Aredia Dougherty; brothers-in-law, Wenzel Steffensen and William Dobrenski and sister-in-law, Judith DeLaCruz.
