Funeral services for 87-year-old Arnold “Arnie” Fast of Butterfield, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday morning, April 20. 2015, at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. James, Minnesota. The church is located at 315 9th Street South.
Interment will be in Butterfield City Cemetery in rural Butterfield, located south of Minnesota State Highway #60 on Watonwan County Road #5.
Reverend Matthew Natsis will officiate at the funeral services.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 19, 2015, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Sturm Funeral Home-St. James Chapel, located at 906 10th Street South. Another visitation will be held at the church the day of the funeral from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Arnold “Arnie” Fast passed away at his Butterfield home on Wednesday, April 15, 2015.
Arnold “Arnie” Fast was born in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, on June 5, 1927, the son of George and Catherine (Steinle) Fast. Arnie was a lifelong resident of the Butterfield area. He attended country school as a child and farmed with his dad for several years.
On September 18, 1946, was married to Esther Smit. The couple raised their family and farmed near Butterfield. He also drove truck for several trucking companies, hauling livestock and grain. Arnie and Esther retired and moved to town in 2002.
Arnie was active at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, in Butterfield, where he served on the church council and was head usher for many years.
Arnie enjoyed his daily trip to town for dinner and the mail.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Fast of Butterfield; children, Ron (Betty Fast) of Butterfield and Cheryl (Bryce) Bregel of Butterfield; grandchildren, Laural (Bill) Sence, Dawn Fast and special friend Curt, Derek Fast, and eight great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, George and Catherine Fast, and several brothers and sisters.
