Ninth Annual Coaches vs Cancer girls/boys basketball doubleheader game night is Friday
The ninth-annual participation of the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine girls and boys basketball teams with Coaches vs. Cancer fundraising events will be held in a doubleheader on Friday, January 26 against the Southwest Minnesota Christian Eagles of Edgerton.
That means it is “game on” in raising funds for the fight in the battle against the disease known as the “Big C.”
The program is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Here is the line-up of events for the evening:
+ Chili and Soup Supper – Running from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Mountain Lake Public School cafeteria, free will offering collected. Mountain Lake Fire Department is sponsoring the meal.
+ Wall of Hope – Donation of $1 adds the donor’s name or the name of someone affected by cancer, to the “Wall.”
+ Silent Raffle – Held in the Mountain Lake Public School auditorium’s foyer. Raffle prizes will include elementary class projects. Winners need not be present to win.
+ Lightning Games – Held at halftime of both the girls and boys games. Elementary students play at the north basket; high school students and adults at the south basket.
+ Recognition of and Moment of Silence – Held prior to tip-off of the boys game for people affected by cancer.
+ Game Times – The girls’ game begins at 6 p.m.; Boys will follow. Coaching staffs of both teams will be dressed up in support of those affected by cancer.
+ Think Pink – Those attending are asked to wear pink to show support in the cancer fight.
One hundred percent of funds raised (aside from the Friday fundraising meal) will go to help support the Cottonwood County American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life – and the lifesaving programs that help people stay well, get well, find cures and fight back against cancer.
