Four entities receive grants; five others presented ‘button count’ funds
The Mountain Lake Area Foundation (MLAF) distributed monetary awards to a number of entities on Friday, December 8. Four groups received grant awards, while five other were presented “button count” funds.
Grant awards were presented to:
+ $1,016 – Mountain Lake Christian for four compound microscopes for Middle/High School Science classes.
+ $1,000 – City of Mountain Lake for Mountain Lake City Park Band Stand tuckpointing.
+ $1,000 – City of Mountain Lake’s Tree Commission for committed new tree planting in 2018.
+ $500 – Heritage Village Board for “Christmas at the Village” lights.
Also receiving funding were a number of other entities participating in the “button count” at Maynard’s Foods. When consumers use reusable grocery bags, they are presented a “button” and are then able to place it in one of four boxes displaying a specific use. The “buttons” are then counted, with each given a monetary value – traditionally $1 – and the total amount is presented to representatives. These included:
- $1,086 – Mountain Lake Loaves & Fishes Food Shelf.
- $332 – Downtown beautification.
- $288 – Red theater seating replacement in the Mountain Lake Public School Auditorium.
- $261 – Mountain Lake Early Childhood Family Education.
- $80 – MLAF.
