MLA girls stopped by Cougars in holiday tourney contest

Wolverines edged out by CM/C by seven

 

The Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine girls basketball team was edged out by the visiting Cedar Mountain/Comfrey (CM/C) Cougars by seven in last night’s (Friday, December 29) 2017 MLA Holiday Basketball Tournament contest, the Maroon-and-Silver stopped 41 to 48.

The Wolverines were down by one – 19 to 20 – at the game’s halftime break.

Margo Stoesz hit for 10 points for MLA, with Taylor Naas netting nine, and Jenneel Rodney tallying eight – along with grabbing down 16 boards.

For CM/C, Abby Jemmings scored 22 points and Erica Bock had 11.

The girls are at home their next two games, facing Fulda on Thursday, January 4 and Madelia on Friday, January 5.

Named to the Girls All-Tournament Team were:

  • From MLA – Margo Stoesz (5’9″ sophomore guard).
  • From CM/C – Taylor Rose (5’8″ senior forward) and Abby Jemmings (5’2″ senior guard).
  • From Westbrook-Walnut Grove – Grace Woelber (5’4″ junior guard).
  • From Legacy Christian Academy – Lindsey Smitsdorff (6’1″ junior forward).
