Maroon-and-Silver win by 23; Air Chantharak returns to MLHS as Titans’ coach
In the opening game of the 2017 Wolverine Holiday Basketball Tournament last night (Wednesday, December 27) the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) boys topped visiting Tri-City United (TCU) of Montgomery by 23, winning 65 to 42.
For TCU Boys Basketball Head Coach Air Chantharak, it was a return to his high school alma mater, Mountain Lake Public High School (MLHS), as he led the the Titans onto the gym floor.
For the Wolverines, Marcus Boyd scored 18 points, with Spencer Khamvongsa also in double figures, hitting for 12.
Jack Skluzacek had 10 for TCU.
By halftime, MLA had worked its way to a 30-18 lead.
Prior to the start of the game, the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverine boys basketball team from 2012-2013 was saluted.
The 2012-2013 team played in the inaugural season of the Mountain Lake Public and Mountain Lake Christian pairing into Mountain Lake Area. The Wolverines’ overall record that season was 24-6, and 14-2 in the Red Rock Conference, earning a second-place finish. In addition, the Maroon-and-Silver were the 2A SubSectioin and Section Champions and played in the 2013 Minnesota State High School Class “A” Tournament.
