Day of giving to schools, nonprofits across Minnesota – including the MLAF
Next Thursday, November 16 is Give to the Max Day — a day of giving to nonprofits and schools throughout Minnesota – donors will have the opportunity to give money to groups working to make the state a better place in which to live.
One such group, the Mountain Lake Area Foundation (MLAF), is a Give to the Max nonprofit local organization with deep roots in the community that provides a permanent resource with income used to fund charitable activities. It is like a “savings account” for the community. As well, the MLAF coordinates resources to create positive change. The nonprofit is able to multiply the impact of gift dollars by pooling them with other gifts and grants. They are able to create personal legacies by building endowment funds the will benefit the community forever. Their Donor-Advised Funds help people invest in causes they care most about, tailoring the service to each individual’s charitable and financial interests.
The MLAF sports five funds:
+ Project Fund – A non-endowed fund used to raise money for capital projects within the community, as director by the MLAF Board of Directors.
+ Brad Behrends Memorial Fund – A non-endowed fund established to support the community through scholarships and other grand distributions.
+ Foundation for Education Fund – A non-endowed fund that benefits the public and private school systems in the area.
+ Harder Family Fund – Advised by family members, an endowed and non-endowed fund created to benefit southwest Minnesota (including Mountain Lake).
+ Healthcare Fund – A fund established to support healthcare in the community.
Foundation grants for projects in this area total more than $350,000.
Give to the Max Day starts after midnight on Wednesday, November 15 and goes for 24 hours. Minnesota’s Give to the Max Day is a 24-hour online give-a-thon. Last year, more than $18 million was raised for Minnesota nonprofits and schools. In addition, Give to the Max Day provides the opportunity to get matching funds for a gift. GiveMN.org launched its “Give to the Max Day” over seven years ago.
