Mountain Lake FFA reaching out to help the world – at home and far away
There are so many unfortunate things going on in the world, including those happening close to home.
These incidents have affected the heartstrings of the members of the Mountain Lake FFA Chapter. As a result, they were inspired to start a mammoth fundraising effort.
Mountain Lake FFA will be initially given locally by donating collected canned food to donate to the Mountain Lake Loaves & Fishes Food Shelf. But, they are not stopping there.
They plan to raise money for the severely-injured football player, Trenton Bass, of the Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots. His injury occurred while playing the Mountain Lake Area Wolverines at Munson Field on Friday, September 8. That, too, will not be the end.
With the horrible news of the hurricanes that have devastated the south, members want to assist with supportive efforts.
At school events, they will be setting out buckets with each of the Mountain Lake FFA Chapter officers’ (Michael Watkins, Jareya Harder, Jae Faber, Sierra Pankratz, Ryan Blomgren, Weston Osland, David Hall and Kayla Vonk) names posted on them.
Those attending can join with students to bring in food and money and place donations in the officer bucket of their choice (who they wish to see get a pie in the face).
Whichever officer that accumulates the most pounds of food/amount of money in their bucket will receive a yummy pie to the face.
Members of the community additionally help support their cause by bringing food/money to the Mountain Lake High School office on weekdays between 7 a.m.-8 a.m. and 3 p.m.-4 p.m. – or send the donations along with a student.
For this round, the chapter ended up with $162 and 64 lb. of food – with a secret last minute donation that shocked everyone and made it a surprise for the person would was cream pied in the face (David Hall). Runner-Up Kayla Vonk had the honors of tossing the pie into that officer’s face.
To see another officer receive the same just “desserts,” top the previous amount raised.
