2017 Miss Mountain Lake Jae Faber, Little Miss Chloie Jensen

‘Stars & Stripes Forever!’ pageant kicks off Pow Wow #83

Saluting the American flag’s red, white and blue, Pow Wow #83 opened with the 2017 Miss Mountain Lake and Little Miss Mountain Lake Pageant this evening, (Friday, June 16), in the Mountain Lake Public School Auditorium under the theme, “Stars & Stripes Forever!”

Chosen to wear the Miss Mountain Lake tiara during Pow Wow activities – and until next June’s festival – was Jae Faber, daughter of Craig and Deb Faber. Serving as First Runner-Up will be Jordan Boldt, daughter of Tim and Mandy Boldt, with Madison Schroeder, daughter of Kevien and Sandy Schroeder, the 2017 Second Runner-Up.

Miss Mountain Lake Jae was also named as the pageant’s Talent Winner.

The remainder of the Miss Mountain Lake Royal Court includes Danielle Duerksen, daughter of Troy and Dixie Duerksen; Jenneel Rodney, daughter of Dilly and Debbie Rodney and Jewel Soutthivong, daughter of Toun and Lori Soutthivong.

Danielle was voted as Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants.

All of the young women will be seniors next school year at Mountain Lake Public High School.

Judging for Miss Mountain Lake by the trio of judges was done through personal interview, sportswear dance, talent and poise and appearance presentation. Coordinating the Miss Mountain Lake portion of the pageant were Alisa Nickel and Jami Peters.

The six Miss Mountain Lake candidates began working on elements of this year’s pageant with the co-coordinators in late March.

Little Miss Mountain Lake for the year will be Chloie Jensen, daughter of Bruce and Ashley Jensen.

The 10 other Little Miss candidates included Bella Anacker, daughter of James and Jennifer Anacker; Bryn Bell, daughter of Brad Bell and Christina Hanson; Addyson Janzen, daughter of Kimberly Janzen; Astaria Mendez, daughter of Alex Mendez and Jasmine Rehnelt; Lorelai Morin, daughter of Matt and Jen Morin and April Morin; Isabelle Penner, daughter of Jason and Laura Penner; Elena Stade, daughter of Dennis and Stacey Stade; Chelsea Wallert, daughter of David and Karla Ertz; Kathryn Wassman, daughter of Karl and Karyn Wassman and Aleeah Yusuf, daughter of Abdifatah Yusuf and Karyn Wallert.

Little Miss candidates will be in third grade in the 2017-2018 school year.

The Little Miss was determined by the drawing of the winning name. Jami Peters, Sarah Mendoza and Becky Palm handle the duties coordinating the Little Miss contestants.

Serving as emcees for the pageant were Mountain Lake Area Chamber of Commerce President Cheri Hanson and her husband, Mark Hanson.

The stage crew included Dima Hanson, Sabrina Hanson, Mason Fast, Treyton Duerksen and Maxton Fast. In the sound-and-light booth were Emma Stade and Sam Stade, along with Kurt Jahnke and Doug Larson, with Kiana Peters on spotlight. Serving as hostesses were Taylor Hudson, Taylor Naas and Brooke Naas. Set construction was by Jesse Peters. David and Marie Savage completed the tabulation of the judge’s scores.

+ Stan Schroeder Memorial Alumni Softball Game – at Munson Field, 10 a.m.

+ Alumni Baseball Game – at Munson Field, 12 p.m.  (Second Clue for Adult Scavenger Hunt.)

+ Laker/Wolverine Cross Country Reunion at Mountain Lake Public School 

  • 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., Open House in the elementary gym.
  • 3 p.m. to  4 p.m., Program in the auditoriuim.
  • 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., Open House in the elementary gym.

+ Pow Wow Party at Mountain Lake Golf Club – 

  • Firefighters’ Hamburger Feed (open to all), 5:30 p.m.
  • Beer Garden opens ($5 entry fee, must be 21-years-old), 7 p.m.
  • DJ at the Beer Garden (cash bar, Royalty Rides – free Sober Cabs, tips welcomed – available, 8 p.m. to 12 midnight.

+ First Annual Mountain Lake Vendor/Craft Fair – Corner of 12th Street and 3rd Avenue, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tupperware, Usborne books, several crafters, custom wood crafter, Ocie’s creations.

+ Steve Pfeiffer Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament – north side of Mountain Lake City Park, 12 noon. (A 35+ bracket is being considered.)

JAE FABER REACTED after receiving the 2017 crown from last year’s Miss Mountain Lake Danica Dick. The new Miss Mountain Lake will be awarded a $500 scholarship by the Mountain Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

 

EXCITEMENT WAS CLEARLY written on the face of 2017 First Runner-Up Jordan Boldt following her crowning by the 2016 First Runner-Up Emily Jahnke. As First Runner-Up, Jordan will receive a $250 scholarship from the Mountain Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

 

A LOOK OF shock – and a tight white-knuckle grip on the hand of her fellow contestant Jordan Boldt, left, was Madison Schroeder’s response to being selected as 2017 Second Runner-Up. Completing the crowning duties was last year’s Second Runner-Up Lexia Peters. Madison as Second Runner-Up will be presented with a $150 scholarship by the Mountain Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

 

THE 11 LITTLE Miss Mountain Lake candidates were narrowed by drawing to five – with Chloie Jensen’s name selected to be the 2017 Little Miss. Last year’s Little Miss Khloe Saelee, placed the crown on Chloie, assisted by 2016 Miss Mountain Lake Danica Dick, back right. JAE FABER’S WINNING Talent Presentation was a vocal solo featuring Nat King Cole’s “Orange-Colored Sky,” backed by her own on-screen scenic sky photographs. Jae received $100 cash from the Mountain Lake Area Chamber of Commerce for the honor.

 

CHOSEN BY HER fellow contestants as Miss Congeniality was Danielle Duerksen. Danielle performed a humorous skit as the Lily Tomlin character, “Edith Ann.” As Miss Congeniality, Danielle was presented $50 cash by the Mountian Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. Other talent presentations included a piano solo to Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” by Madison Schroeder; Jordan Boldt with the Evan Carmichael speech, “Your Hidden Talent;” Jenneel Rodney with a vocal solo on Sam Cooke’s “The Change Is Gonna Come” and Jewel Southivong’s vocal solo on “This Is Amazing Grace,” by Phil Wickham.
