PCC overlay from Highway 30 to Mountain Lake also on tap for 2017
Cottonwood County Road 1 between Mountain Lake and Minnesota Highway 30 is a focus of the Cottonwood County Highway Department during the 2017 construction season.
Work began on Monday, April 3 on a County 1 bridge located between 350th Street and Cottonwood County Road 3. A detour is in place for that stretch of county highway. The project has an end date of Friday, June 9.
Later in this summer construction season, a PCC (Portland Cement Concrete) overlay will be placed on County 1, extending from Mountain Lake, north to Highway 30.
The City of Mountain Lake and Utilities Commission have coordinated a sewer line and water line replacement project along County 1 this summer with Cottonwood County. Two blocks of sewer line and one block of water line between 3rd Avenue and 6th Avenue will be replaced.
This project will include the elimination of one block of water main along County 1 between 5th Avenue and 6th Avenue, along with replacing the block of water main between 3rd Avenue and 5th Avenue with new 8″ diameter main. Sewer will also be replaced, with new 12″ lines laid between 3rd Avenue to 6th Avenue, along with reconnecting service to Town’s Edge Auto.
The Mountain Lake City Council has awarded the project to Holtmeier Construction Inc. of Mankato, the lowest bidder. In fact, this low bid was 10% below the Engineer’s Estimate of $218,987.50.
The move is being made to pre-empt any possible future water or sewer issues, as Cottonwood County does not want any cutting into or digging up of the new concrete after it is laid.
The Utility Commission will self-fund the project, using sewer funds for both the sewer and water work, with water repaying its portion of the cost.
Following the completion of that utility work, the county will place the concrete overlay on County 1.
Additional 2017 Cottonwood County Highway Department projects include work on both a bridge and a box culvert in Ann Township.
