The Red Rock Conference and Tomahawk Conference will square off in this year’s Tim Orth Foundation All-Jamboree Basketball Games – girls and boys – beginning at 6 p.m. this Friday, March 17, at the Wabasso Activity Center.
Representing the Mountain Lake Area (MLA) boys basketball team, and playing for the Red Rock Conference, will be seniors Levi Stoesz and Aaron Fast. Senior Tommy Kraemer is serving as an alternate.
The Wolverines are included in the total of 60 seniors from both conferences in the girls’ and boys’ basketball games to take place. The “Jam the Gym” games are held in conjunction with the Tim Orth Memorial Foundation’s annual event to raise money for individuals with major medical expenses chosen by the foundation itself.
On top of the games themselves, the event will also sport a three-point shooting contest before the games with a plaque for the winners on both sides. Numerous professional and college mascots will be there, including the “Crunch” from the Minnesota Timberwolves, “Bear” of the Utah Jazz and “Luck” of the Boston Celtics, all from the National Basketball Association (NBA) and “Goldie the Gopher” from the University of Minnesota. Also joining in on the hard court action will be the Boston Celtics Dunk Team, the Utah Jazz Dunk Team and the “Alexander Acers,” a group of young ball-handlers from Alexandria set to show off their basketball skills. New this year is the FM Acro team sharing their gymnastics talents.
Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for senior citizens and students.
About Tim Orth; Tim Orth Memorial Foundation
Tim Orth, for whom the Tim Orth Memorial Foundation (TOMF) is named, was a BOLD (Bird Island-Olivia-Lake Lillian-Danube) High School student and athlete when he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Tim will always be remembered for his courageous fight against the cancer that claimed his life on February 14, 1997.
The mission of the TOMF is to assist, financially or otherwise, children in the west-central Minnesota area who are facing substantial medical expenses incurred as a result of a serious accident or illness.
The TOMF is an all-volunteer organization that sponsors multiple fundraisers throughout west-central Minnesota. The volunteers invest countless hours organizing, soliciting and conducting the events. Because of this, there are no administrative costs; ensuring that 100% of the proceeds are used to help the selected recipients.
