Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 11, 2017 at Church of Our Lady of Manannah in rural Grove City, Minnesota, for 79-year-old Ervin Dale Kalkbrenner of Litchfield, Minnesota. The Reverend Joseph Steinbeisser will officiate. The church is located at 57382 County Road 3.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017, at William Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Eden Valley, Minnesota. The funeral home is located at 233 State Street North. A second visitation will be at the church the day of the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Ervin Kalkbrenner passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.
Ervin Dale Kalkbrenner was born on October 31, 1937, in Litchfield, the son of Clarence and Esther (Kelm) Kalkbrenner. He served four years for his country in the United States Air Force and was editor of the newspaper in the Air Force.
Ervin married Mary Alice Meyer on November 5, 1958 at Assumption Catholic Church in Eden Valley. He worked for the United States Postal Service and farmed from 1963-1987. In addition, he drove school bus and was a member of Church of Our Lady.
He enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting, fishing, and farming. He was a simple, kind man who treated others the way he wanted to be treated. Dale was very old-fashioned and loved to rebuild Farmall tractors. He played Santa Claus in Litchfield for many years. Dale enjoyed spending time with his weekly coffee buddies at his best friends Gordy and Ann’s home.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice of Litchfield; children, DeAnn (Jiggs) Rothstein of Litchfield, Debra (Tom) Langman of Chetek, Wisconsin, Doug (Shelley) Kalkbrenner of Grove City, and Donna Rae (Ron) Anderson of Litchfield; sisters and brother, Delores (Gary) Condon, Clarence Kalkbrenner Jr., and Janice Markovich; 19 grandchildren (including Alisa Nickel of Mountain Lake, Minnesota); 29 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law, Barb Kalkbrenner; nieces, Kristin and Kerry and best friends, Charlie Johnson, Dale Tietjens and Doug Rutten.
