Georgia Norell

Funeral services for 86-year-old Georgia Norell of Darfur, Minnesota, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Darfur. The church is located on Darfur’s Main Street.

Visitation will be at the church the day of the funeral services from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Sturm Funeral Home-St. James Chapel in St. James, Minnesota, is handling the arrangements.

Georgia Norell passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017, at Mayo Health System-St. James.

Georgia Ann Norell was born September 6, 1930, in Ellsworth, Minnesota, the daughter of John D. and Marian (Clark) Miller. Raised through the depression and WWII, Georgia graduated from Ellsworth High School with the Class of 1948.

On February 9, 1949, Georgia and Clayton Norell were united in marriage, living for a short time in Comfrey, Minnesota, and the past 65 years in Darfur. They raised eight children through Darfur and Comfrey schools and all eight children achieved post-secondary degrees.

Georgia was the #1 supporter for her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. She never missed an event for her kids, encouraging them to be active learners and to participate in co-curricular activities.

Georgia worked at Medtronics, Tri-County Oil and for 25 years at the Comfrey Times. She loved all sports and was a devoted fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Lynx, Vikings and Twins. She served several terms on the Darfur City Council and the board of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She had a beautiful singing voice and especially loved country gospel and the old church hymns.

Loving and mourning her are her children, Lynnae (Steven) Anderson of Edina, Minnesota, Duane (Carmen) of Columbia, South Carolina, Dale (Deb) of Rochester, Minnesota, Andrea (Lyle) Blom of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Karen Norell  and Marian Norell, all of Granite Falls, Minnesota and Jeffrey (Colleen) of Owatonna; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; sister, Brenda of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; sisters-in-law, Verna Miller of Jackson, Minnesota and Ellen Amsden of Springfield, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Clifford Norell of Sacred Heart, Minnesota and beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marian Miller; in-laws, Martin and Ellen Norell; husband, Clayton in 2013; son, Michael in 2000; great-grandson, Benjamin Blom; siblings, Warren (June) Miller, Marvella (George) Aielts, James Miller and Shirlee Miller; brothers-in-law, Fay Amsden and Charles Gacke and nephew, Tony Miller.
