MLC students compete in SWWC Digital Photography Competition; Carter James claims a first-place
Three Mountain Lake Christian (MLC) High School students – senior Danica Dick of Mountain Lake and juniors Cheyanne Courts of Windom and Carter James of Mountain Lake – competed last Thursday, December 8, in a Digital Photography Competition for grades 9-12 sponsored by the Southwest/West Central (SWWC) Service Cooperative in Marshall.
Seven schools sent 26 student photographers – with 80 total photo entries – into the competition.
Students submitted up to three 8 x 10 photos from any combination of three categories Those categories included:
+ People.
+ Nature and Landscapes – photos focused on landscapes, outdoor scenes, sunsets, seascapes, cityscapes, farms, animals, etc.
+ Elements of Design – photos that showcased line, shape, form texture, etc.).
The submitted photos could be in color or black-and-white. PhotoShop or similar photo-editing software was allowed to enhance photos, but not to create photos using editing software.
Awards were presented to the top three places in each category, as well as a “People’s Choice,” voted on by the students. A trio of area professional photographers served as judges.
One of James’ photos – Lion Boy – was judged as first-place in the People category.
Students also participated in a skill session with Greg Devereaux of Tracy, an industry professional who shared action photography tips. His work can be found at gregdevereauxphotography.net .
