
Burial will be in Southeastern Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Preston, Minnesota. The cemetery is located on 21972 United States Highway 52.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening, April 19, 2016, at the Hindt Funeral Home in Spring Valley, with the rosary recited at 6:15 p.m. The funeral home is located at 316 North Broadway Avenue. Visitation will continue at the church the day of the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Jerry Simon passed away at his home in Spring Valley on Friday, April 15, 2016.
He was born to Hugh and Ellen (Rafoth) on March 28, 1931, in Spring Valley Township, Minnesota. Jerry went to school in Spring Valley. He was drafted into the United States Army on March 17, 1954, and served until March 13, 1956. Jerry took basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, where he was trained as an Army cook. After training, he served in Austria and Germany.
On December 27, 1969, he married Winifred “Winnie” Winkels at St. Pius Catholic Church in Rochester, Minnesota. The couple lived in Spring Valley. Jerry retired from Libby McNeil Libby and Seneca Foods in 1996.
Jerry was a life member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). He was past commander of the American Legion. He was also past president of the 4th Armored Calvary Recon BNASSNBN (1996-1997).
Jerry is survived by his wife, Winnie, of Spring Valley; sons, Hugh (Rebekah) Simon of Mountain Lake, Minnesota and John (Jenny) Simon of Spring Valley; grandchildren, Martina, Naomi, Faith, Isaac and Odin Simon; brother, Eugene Simon; sisters, Helen “Dolly” (Weldon) Eggler and Ann (Richard) Heppellmann and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Hugh and Ellen and his brothers, James, Anton, William, Theodore, Clair and Carl Simon.
