. . . Is the development of Mountain Lake Soccer youth teams
Mountain Lake Soccer will be holding a Fun Camp this Saturday, April 2, beginning at 10 a.m. on the soccer fields behind Mountain Lake Christian (MLC). The camp will be for boys and girls ages 10-16. Interested youth from both MLC and Mountain Lake Public School – and even neighboring communities – can come to the fields, meet the coaches, kick the soccer ball around, try some drills, register – and maybe scrimmage. Parents are welcome to attend as well, an ask questions at the registration table, located in the school’s north parking lot or in the inside hall near the MLC Music Room (depending on the weather). Those attending should wear soccer shoes or tennis shoes – and bring shin guards if they have them.
This is not a school-affiliated extracurricular sport, so participants can also compete in their Minnesota State High School League spring sport as well.
The goal is to have enough soccer players to fill the roster for two or three teams (U12, U14 or U16, or similar).
According to Allison Klassen, President of the Mountain Lake Soccer Club, plans are to begin practicing at the end of April – depending on the weather. Practices will be held two nights a week from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., and those bi-weekly workouts will work around other sports schedules and summer activities.
Games will begin later in May and run through June. Teams on the schedule include Fairmont, Redwood Falls, New Ulm and Marshall – with addition of more competitors a possibility.
