Highlight reel, though, will feature Mountain Lake’s, USMC’s Zach Fredericksen as member of Super Bowl Armed Services Color Guard
Even if you aren’t a huge football fan, tune in to the opening minutes of the coverage of the Super Bowl game at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California (home of the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football Conference), this Sunday, February 7 – and you won’t be disappointed. You see, you just might have the opportunity to catch a familiar face on your TV screen.
Making the highlight reel for a local family will be the appearance of Mountain Lake’s – and the United States Marine Corps’ (USMC’s) – 19-year-old LCPL Zach Fredericksen as a member of the Armed Forces Color Guard. They will be kicking off the football game by presenting the colors during the “The National Anthem.”
Fredericksen currently lives and serves in Washington, D. C. He is the son of Heather and Jeff Fredericksen of Mountain Lake and a 2014 graduate of Mountain Lake Public High School.
According to the young Marine, “I will be a part of the Armed Forces Color Guard, which is pulled from the MDW. (Military District of Washington). The joint color guard consists of three United States Army personnel, two United States Marines, one member of the United States Navy, one member of the United States Air Force and one member of the United States Coast Guard.”
Fredericksen will be a member of the rifle team saluting the colors. That squad is in formation behind the flag bearers. Look for him at the left side of that line.
Yes . . . the day also does include a football game (airing in between the special-on-the-day commercials) – the 50th annual National Football League’s (NFL) Super Bowl. At the “Big Dance,” the Denver Broncos of the American Football Conference (AFC), with Peyton Manning at quarterback (the oldest QB to play in a Super Bowl) will go shoulder pad-to-shoulder pad with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football Conference (NFC), led by Cam Newton at quarterback.
The game will be televised live on CBS, with with Jim Nantz, Phil Simms and Tracy Wolfson calling the action. Kick-off is slated for 5:30 p.m. There will also be plenty of pre-game coverage on the network preceding the contest.
