Pastor Daniel Strutz of the Community Bible Church in Mountain Lake pounded the streets of the Windy City today (Sunday, October 11) as one of 45,000 runners participating in the 2015 Bank of America Chicago Marathon in Chicago, Illinois.

The runners wound through 29 Chicago neighborhoods on their scenic tour of the city.

This year’s event was particularly important as many elite runners ran with the hopes of qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Dickson Chumba of Kenya won the men’s race, finishing with an unofficial time of 2 hours, 9 minutes, 25 seconds.

Florence Kiplagat, also of Kenya, took first place in the women’s race with an emotional finish. Kiplagat dropped to the ground while giving the crowd a thumbs up after crossing the finish line. She won the women’s race, finishing with an unofficial time of 2:23:33.

Strutz, running in the male age 30-34 division, finished the 26.2 mile race with a time of 4:28:38. He was 1,987th in his age division, the 11,591st male into the finish chute and the 18,212th overall finisher – placing him in the top half of the total runners participating.
