According to the Rolling Prairie A.B.A.T.E.’s Facebook page – another successful Fall Run – the “Fallen Friends Memorial Run” – is in the books’ The chapter raised $5,000 for Addyson “Addy” Janzen, daughter of Kimberly Janzen and sister of Delainey Janzen, and the family.

The event, centered at Buckshot’s Bar & Grill in Butterfield, featured the Fall Run with rows-and-rows of motorcycles and their riders participating – but also included – commemorative T-shirts, a dunk tank, hamburger and brat fund-raising meal served by the Butterfield Fire Department, live auction and the band, “Decadence Inc.”

All proceeds were presented to the Janzens.

Addy, a first-grade student at Mountain Lake Public Elementary School, was diagnosed last January with a brain disorder called Metachromatic Leukodystophy (MLD). It is a genetic disease – and there is no cure. Those with MLD lose the ability to walk, eat, talk, sit up and see. It will progress – and eventually take her life.

American Bikers for Awareness, Training, and Education (A.B.A.T.E.) of Minnesota is a not-for-profit, grass roots organization committed to educating motorcyclists and the general public about motorcycling.

A.B.A.T.E. members ride many different types and brands of motorcycles. They are people with a common interest in motorcycling. The fact that they share an interest in motorcycling is more important than the type of motorcycle they ride. There are 25 chapters across Minnesota.

The Rolling Prairie Chapter, established in 1991, is based out of southern Minnesota (St. James) and was started in 1991. Rolling Prairie has around 250 members.

Another yearly activity of Rolling Prairie is the delivery each summer of  “Buddy Bears” to fire departments and ambulance squads in the communities of Odin, St. James, La Salle, New Ulm, Sleepy Eye, Trimont, Sherburn, Ceylon, Granada and Truman. The bears are given to youngsters when they have the misfortune of having to take an ambulance ride. The stuffed bears are a “security blanket” to the young kids, for whom their ride in an ambulance is often a first time event and sometimes a very traumatic and serious one. Other A.B.A.T.E. Chapters throughout the state also deliver the bears.
