Fulda Raiders upend Lady Wolves Varsity Volleyball in four

After taking first game, MLA drops next three

“Talk about a hard fought battle. Talk about scrappy, ridiculous returns. Talk about unending volleys.” That is how Mountain Lake Area (MLA) Wolverines Varsity Volleyball Head Coach Cheri Peterson describes last night’s home match with Fulda.

After taking the first game of the Tuesday, September 15 match from the aiders, 25-14, the Lady Wolverines dropped the next hotly-contested three, 20-25, 23-25 and – in extra-point play – 26-28.

Chanah Brandt led the team in kills with 10, followed by Carmen Syverson and Marta Stoesz. In the second of Game #3 and all of Game #4, Lexia Peters stepped in an provided some powerful blocks, with three solo blocks and five assists – along with four kills. Signey Stoesz had 18 digs, and Emily Jahne contributed 13. Signey also had 11 set assists, while her sister, Marta Stoesz, had 10.

From the serving line, Carmen went 17/19 with four aces. Signey was 17/17 with an ace and Carly Paulson was 19/21 with one ace.

“We had a solid performance,” notes Coach Hanson, but the Raiders were so scrappy and made unbelievable returns when it appeared the ball was going to be out of play. We just couldn’t regain enough momentum to finish it off and put away a match win.”

The squad is currently 4-2 overall, 2-1 in the Red Rock Conference.

They travel to Lamberton tomorrow (Thursday, September 17) to face another conference foe, the Red Rock Central Falcons.
