Funeral services for 86-year-old Clara Belle Johnson of St. James, Minnesota, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday morning, September 3, 2015, in First Lutheran Church in St. James. The church is located at 716 6th Avenue South.
Interment will be in Butterfield City Cemetery, located south of Butterfield, Minnesota on Watonwan County Road #5.
Visitation will be at the church the day of the funeral service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Sturm Funeral Home-St. James Chapel, is handling the funeral arrangements.
Clara Belle Mohlenbrock was born on the family farm near Mountain Lake, Minnesota on September 14, 1928, the daughter of George and Louise (Marienau) Mohlenbrock. Clara grew up on the family farm, attended Country School and graduated from Mountain Lake Public High School.
She worked at Butterfield Produce in Butterfield for many years.
In 1948, she married Roland Vatndal. The couple made their home in Butterfield. Roland died in an automobile accident in 1952.
In 1954, Clara married George Johnson, and they made their home on a farm in the Mountain Lake area. They later moved to Butterfield, where they raised their family and both worked at Butterfield Produce. They also lived in Storden, Minnesota, for a time before moving to St. James.
Clara enjoyed embroidery work, watching old movies, soap operas and Nashville music on TV and word find books. She loved raising her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She kept a meticulous house.
Clara is survived by her children, Carol (Robert) Nelson of Winnebago, Minnesota, Karen (Jim) Thulien of St. James, Marlys Johnson of Heron Lake, Minnesota, Patty (Chuck) Rogers of Gardner, Kansas, Judy (Randy) Scott of Hansville, Washington, Jody (Scott) Horkey of Windom, Minnesota and Joyce (Scott) Hillmer of Fairmont, Minnesota; sisters, Norma Smith of Kandiyohi, Minnesota and Ethel Harder of Colorado Springs, Colorado; 21 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, three infant children, parents and four siblings.
