Mary Anna “Anna” (Reinhart) Watkins was born on September 16, 1948, in New Ulm, Minnesota, the daughter of Harold and Sylvia (Huelskamp) Reinhart and was raised north of New Ulm on a farm. She was the oldest of six children. She went to country school through eighth grade. Her ninth-grade year was at New Ulm Public High School. Then she went to the Annchilla Dominnin School in Donaldson, Indiana, for the rest of her high school years. There she enjoyed being in plays and getting into mischief before graduating.
Her father died when she was 18-years-old and she moved back to New Ulm. She worked at 3M until a handsome man found her one night at a ballroom. On January 20, 1970, she married this man – William “Bill” Joseph Watkins. They moved to the Darfur/Butterfield, Minnesota area where they had two sons. She worked mostly in the housekeeping department at several nursing homes.
They later moved to the Mountain Lake area and eventually retired there. She loved to listen to Old Time music and dance with her husband, and loved talking to friends and family.
