Passenger in car has non-life-threatening injuries, truck driver uninjured
A 68-year-old Windom man, Roger T. Richardson, was killed in a car, straight truck broadside crash that occurred at 1:04 p.m. on Friday, May 1, on Minnesota State Highway #60 on the west side of Mountain Lake. The passenger in the car, Loretta J. Richardson, 66, also of Windom, received non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the straight truck, 23-year-old Jacob Beckius of St. James, had no apparent injuries.
The 2014 4000 International straight truck, driven by Beckius, was southbound on 570th Avenue at Highway #60. He was making a turn to go eastbound on Highway #60, crossing the westbound lanes. At the median, the International truck driver met another vehicle that was attempting to turn northbound off of Highway #60. He waved that vehicle, a truck, through the intersection. As the International truck pulled out to go eastbound on Highway #60, a 2003 Buick LeSabre, driven by Roger Richardson, with passenger Loretta Richardson, was eastbound on Highway #60 in the right-hand lane of the two eastbound lanes and the vehicles collided.
Assisting at the scene were the Mountain Lake Fire Department, Mountain Lake Ambulance, Mountain Lake Police Department, Windom Police Department and Cottonwood County Sheriff. The Minnesota State Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
