AFTER A HEALTH screening process, the next step is to settle in to give the pint donation. Above, Shelby, left, a phlebotomist from the American Red Cross, preps the arm of student donor Chris Boyd, right, by thoroughly rubbing the entire area with two types of iodine. Boyd, who is O positive, was also a double red blood cell donor.

MICHAELA CATE IS caught in this photo in the middle of her blood donation. The process is easy enough for Cate to even spend time staying engaged with friends through social media with her cell phone – albeit by only being able to use her left hand.

THE BLOOD DONATION tables were busy. At front left, Lexia Peters is being prepared for her donation, while at right, Ian Glassic has just settled into his spot in the donation area. At back right, Tiburcio Estrada has completed his donation and is waiting for the final steps in the donation process to be completed.

DYLAN KRUEGER PROUDLY displays the “red badge of courage” – the outer red bandage of the donation puncture area. The red bandage remains on for one hour. Krueger was on his way to the canteen to have some water, juice and snacks to replenish his body after having given up a pint of his blood to help save the life of another.
