One fatality, three others sent to Madelia hospital with two transferred to HCMC
Four Butterfield teenagers were involved in a single-vehicle rollover on a wet Minnesota State Highway #60 at approximately 10:10 p.m. on Saturday night, December 13. According to a report filed by the Minnesota State Highway Patrol, a 2003 Chevrolet PT Cruiser passenger car was westbound on #60 near Madelia in Watonwan County when it entered the center median at Milepost #80 and rolled multiple times. The vehicle came to rest on its roof. Two of the teens were ejected from the vehicle.
Sixteen-year-old Ross Blomgren was fatally injured in the accident. He was not wearing a seat belt and was one of the two thrown from the vehicle. Surviving with non-life-threatening critical injuries are the unidentified 17-year-old male behind the wheel, 16-year-old female passenger Julia Hiebert and 17-year-old female passenger Rose Martinez, the patrol said. The driver and the 16-year-old girl had on their seat belts; while the 17-year-old girl did not. All three surviving teens were transported by Madelia Ambulance to Madelia Community Hospital, with Martinez and Hiebert transferred to Hennepin County Medial Center (HCMC) in Minneapolis. No alcohol was detected.
The passenger car was totaled.
The state patrol continues to investigate the accident.
