merlyn tewsFuneral services for 82-year-old Merlyn Tews of Springfield, Minnesota, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, October 24, 2014, in St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield. The church is located at 224 North Mary.

Interment will be in Springfield City Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Butterfield  VFW Post. The cemetery is at Brown County Road #24.

Pastor Julie Smith will serve as officiant at the services.

Visitation will be on Thursday,  October 23, 2014, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, located at 2o1 South Brown County Road #5. Visitation will continue at the church the day of the funeral service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Sturm Funeral Home-Springfield Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Merlyn Tews passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2014, in Springfield.

Merlyn Darrell Tews was born May 13, 1932 on the family farm in Stately Township, Brown County, the son of Oscar and Clara (Tordsen) Tews.

He was united in marriage to Gladys Colburn on September 27, 1954 at Christ Lutheran Church in Stately Township. Following marriage, the couple farmed near Sanborn, Minnesota for four years before moving to Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Merlyn worked at Toro in Windom, Minnesota for over 30 years and assisted area farmers when needed.

He was a current member of St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield and the Butterfield VFW. Merlyn enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, walking, helping on the farm and traveling. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys of Springfield; children, Rhonda (Mark) Krueger of Springfield, Sandy (Dale) Robideau of Olivia, Minnesota and Randy Julia) Tews of Discovery Bay, California; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joyce Tews of Phoenix, Arizona; sister, Jolene (Vern) Dehmlow of Grove City, Minnesota and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael; great-granddaughte,r Amelia Carlin; brother, Ken “Tubby” Tews and sister, Lamae Marks.
