A memorial service for Melvin D. Oeltjenbruns, 86, of Lakefield, Minnesota, will be held this Saturday morning, October 18, 2014, beginning at 10 a.m., at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter Township, Jackson County, Minnesota, with Pastor Bart Mueller officiating.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 17 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Osterberg Funeral Home in Lakefield. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services at church on Saturday.
Melvin D. Oeltjenbruns passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014, at the home of his son, Gene, and family in Lakefield.
Melvin Donald Oeltjenbruns was born on September 16, 1928 in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, the son of Emil, Sr. and Annie (Stenke) Oeltjenbruns. He attended country school in the Mountain Lake area. Upon completion of school, he began his lifelong career on the farm.
On January 27, 1955 he married Florence Falk in Sanborn, Minnesota. The couple lived and farmed near Mountain Lake, Windom, Minnesota, Odin, Minnesota and finally settling in Hunter Township, Jackson County.
Florence passed away on March 13, 2009. Melvin continued to live on the farm until medical issues caused him to move into Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda, Minnesota. In April 2013, he moved in with his son Gene’s family in Lakefield.
Melvin was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Hunter Township, Jackson County. He was a simple man who enjoyed working on the farm. He also liked to fish and play cards in his spare time. Melvin loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
Melvin is survived by five sons, Russell of Lakefield, George (Peggy) of Kensington, Minnesota, Bruce (Beth) of Hayward, Minnesota, Ronny (Donelle) of Lakefield and Gene (Leslie) of Lakefield. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and his four siblings, Emil Jr., Evelyn, Annie, and Minnie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a daughter-in-law Donna Oeltjenbruns.
