Funeral services for Carol Jean (Smith) Pettersen, 59, of Madelia, Minnesota, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday morning, October 31, 2014, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia, located at 406 West Main Street.
Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Madelia, located at East County Highway #3, Flanders Avenue in Madelia.
Pastor Greg Hall will officiate at the services.
Visitation will be on Thursday, October 30, 2014, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia, as well as from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church the day of the funeral services.
Sturm Funeral Home-Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia is handling the arrangements.
Carol Pettersen passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014, in Mankato, Minnesota.
Carol Jean (Smith) Pettersen, of Madelia was born on December 18, 1954, the daughter of Donald and Mary Smith. She grew up on a farm west of Madelia with her four sisters and was a graduate of Madelia Public High School.
Carol was married to Les “Tubby” Pettersen on September 6, 1980, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia.
She worked alongside her husband for nine years in their business, Pettersen Skidoo, while raising their two children. She enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, canning, camping and playing Bingo. Carol was gifted at quilting, obtaining recognition at the Clay County Fair and making generous donations of quilts for breast cancer research.
She was also dedicated mother and grandmother, who generously cared for her children and grandson regardless of her own needs or feelings.
Survivors include a son, Darren (Kyley) Pettersen of Madelia and grandson, Brantley Pettersen; a daughter, Brittany Pettersen of Mankato; sisters, Patty (Doug Osborne) Peterson of Madelia, Sandy (Don Sebby) Johnson of Jackson, Minnesota, Janice (Steve) Fast of Butterfield, Minnesota and Helen (Everard) Leacock of Grand Cayman, UK; mother in law, Ethel Pettersen; brother in law, Jim (Myra) Pettersen; nieces and nephews, Tim and Donovan Clarke, Brian (Kristen) Krahmer, Matt (Sara) Fast, Randy (Jeremy) Curry, Tina (Damian) Prescher, Misty (Travis) Fast, Melanie (Ront) Hundt, Erik, Chase and Bianca (Nico) Leacock and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Les “Tubby” Pettersen in 2012; parents, Donald and Mary Smith and father-in-law, Robert Pettersen.
