sharon sanfordFuneral services for Sharon Sanford, 72, of New Ulm, Minnesota, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning (Thursday, September 4, 2014) , at Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm, with Pastor Ric Jacobsen officiating.

Interment will be in Mountain Lake (Minnesota) Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at Minnesota Valley Funeral Home, South Chapel in New Ulm and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church.

Sharon Sanford passed away on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at the Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.

Sharon Kay Sanford was born on October  9, 1941 in Tracy, Minnesota, the daughter of Palmer and Hazel (Hanson) Swanson. She graduated from Balaton Public High School.

On April 11, 1959 she married Claire Kirk.

After his death, she married Jim Sanford on September 18, 1987.

Sharon had worked at Toro in Windom, Minnesota and Casey’s General Store, United Prairie Bank in New Ulm, as well as the New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf.

She enjoyed camping, gardening, and spending time with her family. Sharon was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church in New Ulm.

Sharon is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Todd Turgeon of Minnetonka, Minnesota; sons and daughter-in-law, Brad “Sarge” Kirk of New Ulm, Tim and Sheila Kirk of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; grandchildren, Lucas and Gabby Kirk, Jordan, Carter and Anna Kirk and Tori Turgeon; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marlene and LeRoy Moon of Grantsburg, Wisconsin, Deb and Wade Smith of Pipestone, Minnesota, Ray Kirk of Balaton; sisters-in-law, Janice Swanson of Pipestone, Margaret Kirk of Garvin, Minnesota and LaDonna Biese of Moore, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Claire Kirk and Jim Sanford; son, Randy Kirk and brothers, Darvin and Dale Swanson.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the New Ulm Food Shelf or donor’s choice.
