adeline graslieGraveside services for 86-year-old Adeline E. Graslie of Sioux Falls, South Dakota will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon (Saturday, September 6, 2014) at Highland Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Brandt, South Dakota.

A visitation will be held from 12 noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings, South Dakota.

Adeline E. Graslie passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at The Good Samaritan Society of Mountain Lake-The Village in Mountain Lake, Minnesota.

Adeline E. Ekern was born on March 22, 1928 in Deuel County, South Dakota, the daughter of Ole and Ina (Furness) Ekern. She was baptized and confirmed at Highland Lutheran Church in Brandt. She received her education at Cloverdale District #8 near Brandt and was a graduate of Astoria (South Dakota) Public High School in 1946.

She was united in marriage to James Graslie on August 24, 1947 in Brandt. After their marriage they farmed for seven years in Deuel County until 1955, when they moved to Circle Pines, Minnesota. Adeline was employed at Northway Drug for 12 years, until moving to Watertown, South Dakota in 1968. In 1971, they purchased a grocery store in Brandt and owned and operated it until 1979.

James died on June 6, 1981 in Brandt. Shortly after his death, Adeline continued to pursue her passion of serving the Lord in several communities until October 1996, when she moved to Brookings. In the last 10 years of her life, she lived in the Sioux Falls area.

She was involved with the Stevens Ministry Program for several years, taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, served on the church counsel and was a member of the hospice program. She was a member and actively involved in the church community. She especially enjoyed counted cross-stitch and embroidery. She loved gardening, flowers, birds and crafts. Music has also been a large part of her life.

Adeline is survived by her four daughters, Vicki Conzet, of Dayton, Minnesota, Cheryl Hiebert, of Mountain Lake, Patricia (Jerome) Olson, of Sioux Falls and Belinda (Jay) Levitt, of Eureka, California; one son, Terry Graslie, of Sioux Falls; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Irene Ferguson, of Canby, Minneosta and Sonja (Allen) Weins, of Marion, South Dakota; two sisters-in-law, Omeda Ekern, of Nacogdoches, Texas and Angelina Ekern of Toronto, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven brothers, Ervin, Melvin, Richard, Roy, Alvin, Lloyd and Robert; two sons-in-law, Ralph Conzet and George Hiebert; brother-in-law, Kermit Ferguson and sister-in-law Della Dahl.
