Races for all positions in Mountain Lake city government; filing ends 5 p.m. today

Up for election are mayor, two four-year council terms – and one two-year council spot

There will be races in all Mountain Lake city government positions up for election this  November; including the two-year mayor term, the pair of four-year city council posts – as well as the unexpired two-year council postiion left open with the resignation of Audi Nickel due to a move outside of the city limits.

Expiring this fall are the terms of Mountain Lake mayor, currently held by Dean Janzen; two four-year council spots held by Brian Schultz and Andrew Ysker – as well as the two-year council opening, left vacant by Nickel.

To date, David Savage, current council member, and a newcomer, Tim Janzen (who filed yesterday -Monday, August 11), have filed for the mayoral post. Current Mayor Dean Janzen has elected not to file for another term. He has held the term since taking the place of former mayor, Howard Bouchie, following his 2002 resignation.

Filing for the two four-year positions to date includes incumbents Brian Schultz and Andy Ysker (who filed this morning – Tuesday, August 12), along with challengers Dana Kass and D. David Dodge.

Two people have placed their names on the ballot to fill the one two-year council position. This pair of contenders include Darla Kruser and Dean Sawatwzky.

Filing continues through 5 p.m. today (Tuesday, August 12).

Candidates must file in person at Mountain Lake City Hall, located at 930 3rd Avenue or by mail to: Mountain Lake City Clerk, P. O. Box C, Mountain Lake, MN 56159.

The filing fee is $2.

The general election will be held on Tuesday, November 4.
